A Wong Kar Wai-Inspired Engagement Shoot on Film In NYC

These two icons came blazing into NYC from Indonesia, banging on our door, wanting to work on a Wong Kar Wai-inspired shoot together.

In all honesty, we had no idea who the hell this legendary director was, but after digging up his films (only 2 were available online during this time), we became instant and obsessive fans. WKW is a cinema God, he’s one of a kind, and our relationship with colored light has never been the same…

To this day, this shoot with Christine & Johan was one of the most magical and perfectly collaborative experiences we’ve ever had. It wasn’t just about shooting at night in color-drenched ambient light in the dark crevices of NYC - that part was easy. The reason these photos are so powerful has everything to do with our darling subjects.
