Hacienda San Gabriel de Las Palms Wedding in Mexico
The week leading up to Alexandria & Javier’s wedding, we settled into Mexico City to explore. My favorite was visiting Casa Luis Barragan, which had a huge impact on me. It’s the first time I experienced architecture in that way. Im forever grateful that we were able to get in.
When planning our 3-day weekend trip to the venue, Hacienda San Gabriel de Las Palmas near Cuernavaca, our Airbnb host was overly confident we could take an Uber there, which was an hour or two away. Turns out, she was wrong. The Uber driver denied us upon arrival, shaking his head and saying it was “out of range,” but kindly gave us the number of a local cab for hire. Mikes spanish can get is by pretty well but this was ..out of his range. Turns out, the hotel was actually in the middle of nowhere. Also, Mike had food poisoning from the BBQ oysters we had the day before - oops - so he was a hot mess. Fortunately, our dear friends Alberto & Yago (AY Video) came along for the ride and could translate.
The drive was a scene straight out of a clown show: All 5 of us crammed into a miniature white beater with our camera bags overflowing, no a/c, and bumpy dirt roads the whole way. Poor Mike could barely hold it together… but we made it.
After the wedding weekend, we headed back to home base in Mexico City. The ride back was just as rough, the car was just as small, but would we do it all over again? Absolutely.. with our own car tho. #nexttime
